Are You Winter Ready: Fall Maintenance Checklist

10 THINGS TO DO IN THE FALL TO SKIP COSTLY WINTER #FAILS

  • Stow your mower; run your mower before stowing it
  • Inspect your roof; look for warning signs: shingles that are buckled, cracked or missing
  • Direct drainage away from your house; make sure your foundation slopes away from your house and soil doesn’t touch your siding
  • Get your furnace serviced; change your filters and have your heating system checked and tuned
  • Prune your plants; late fall is the best time to prune your plants and trees
  • Inspect chimney for blockages; make sure the damper opens and closes properly
  • Store hoses and turn off outdoor water; leaving hoses attached can cause water to back up in the faucets & in the plumbing pipes just inside your exterior walls
  • Drain and turn off sprinkler system; an irrigation pro can blow out the system for a minimal price and you know the job is done right
  • Seal cracks around doors and windows; keep the cold air out and warm air in
  • Clean your gutters; clogged gutters can cause ice dams and lead to expensive repairs
